A one month symposium in the Huasteca Mountains in Nueva Leon, Mexico, 9 sculptors were invited to each carve a 1m x 2m x 1m block of Black Monterrey Marble. Sculptors from Italy, Spain, Turkey, Romania and Serbia lived and worked at the Studio of Jorge Elizondo, nestled in the fantastic mountains that ringed the worksite. This symposium culminated in an outdoor exhibition at MARCO, the Monterrey Contemporary Art Museum, as well as a panel presentation. We all served as panelists before an audience of about 300 art lovers, critics, students, and colleagues to discuss our work, the marble of Monterrey, the symposium experience in Mexico and elsewhere and out outlooks on art and life.
